Twin Carriage Pram and Modern Pram

Hello mini friends,

As always I have been quite busy but I have managed to make two new minis somewhere in between the crazyness of life, even if I am a little late in showing you them.  

The first is a twin version of the Balmoral style carriage pram I make.  I was asked by a lovely customer if I could create a twin version, as I had wanted to do this for some time I decided I would craft it for her.

The pram has the usual features of being fully lined and gently padded inside with collapsible hoods and a removable apron.  I may one day bring out some twin carriage pram kits but it won’t be this year since I have so many other things on the go but the good news is I do have some single carriage pram kits in stock (and more almost ready) and these are available in my shop, just click this link: http://www.teenytinythings.co.uk/item.php?name=411

I also created a very modern style pram that was a sort of cross between an Egg pushchair (frame) with a Venicci style body.  This pram required an entirely new pattern and took quite a lot of time to get the apron to sit just right. 

This picture shows you the amount of tiny adjustments I made to each pattern before finally perfecting it.

I created bigger back wheels to compliment the smaller front ones as I wanted this pram to look really modern and I think this had the desired effect.  I intend to make some single pushchairs using this frame and sell them in my shop very soon.

Well that’s all for now.  I am attending university at the moment and along with all those other things that us busy woman have to juggle so it does not leave me much time for crafting but I expect I’ll be back in full mini swing later in the year and if I'm honest, I can't wait! :)

Sunny Yellow Pram

I've been super busy since last time I posted... I've been making some things with my 3D printer.  I know some of you are very technical and others not so I'll tell you a little bit about what I've been up to.  I got my printer about two years ago, I cannot believe how quickly time passes but I had wanted one for a while and even though it took a bit of mastering I got there and now I'm addicted lol.  Now before you rush off to buy one be aware, if you are not technical it's not quite as simple as printing something 2D in ink.   While this is my new fave toy atm, it is very time consuming and I wish I didn't have so many ideas because I don't have enough time to make everything I think up.  The fact is that it takes days, weeks, months even to design and scale any new project and this is on top of the general research, then when you come to printing something you need a printer that can handle the task and the variables are immense! Once you start to print there are lots and lots of settings that one has to get right and this process results in many, many wasted prints that are not quite right in one way or another.  However, once you have mastered all that, if you have any hair left lol you can print some rather cute components that help to enhance your minis... although most of the time you have to print everything in sections and then construct it later which can also be a pain - not to mention working out how to un-construct it and make it into kit form in the first place.

Anyhoo... this week saw me make a twin pushchair; one side has a carrycot and the other a seat for a toddler.  I wanted something bright so I opted for a sunny yellow with a grey base for contrast.  So far this one hasn't got a new owner so is up for sale on my website.  I wanted to make something a little different so I used my printer to create the parts which meant the parts were precise sizes (give or take a few hundred failed prints lol).  Usually the bit I hate most is bending metal and not getting it exactly right on the first attempt. Being as I have to make these in kit form anyway I decided I am going to make up some kits for single pushchairs that should be pretty reasonable in cost and sell them in my shop, that way more people can own their own mini pushchairs in the colours they choose.

Next I made a cash register, I wanted one with an opening drawer that had space for change and paper money and included a little receipt - sticking out the top mid sale.  I printed these in several pieces and then constructed them.  Not perfect yet but I think I may bring them out as kits for people to make up in a few weeks.  Everyone seemed to like them and I found new homes for some of the prototypes so that was positive.

Then I had decided to make some old 70's TV sets the ones with the huge back panels and wooden surrounds.  I figured I'd use actual wood for the outer edge and pop a light inside so they would light up.  I've included a pic of the prototype again for you.  As you can see it's a little rough so it will need a few adjustments but I think they will look good eventually.

Moses Baskets and a Sofa

Hello mini friends,

It's been a long time (again) since my last post.  I think since I became a grandma and consequently had to do a little bit (just a teeny tiny bit) of growing up my life has been taken over with grandchildren and that coupled with caring for adult children and my mum and well all the important people who are closest to one's heart, doesn't leave much time for minis at the moment.  Which is just as it should be of course because as much as I love what I do, family always come as I'm sure you'll agree.   Indeed we have recently had a new addition to our family, my son (who you may remember had a little girl born sleeping a few years ago) has just had another baby girl, she is happy and healthy and she is almost three weeks old now.  As you can imagine my son and daughter in law are overjoyed and basically spend their days just looking at her, she is so loved.  Here's a little picture of her, she's called Olivia Grace...

...isn't she just adorable.  I doubt I'll get to look after her much because her mummy and daddy can't put her down haha, but I'm happy either way, she's loved and that's all that matters.

Well on the mini's front I have managed to make some new things.  I decided to change my website a little so as to just sell mostly the things I make, some craft items and a couple of other small bits and bobs, that done I am trying to get all those ideas that have sat on a back burner for years and actually create them.  So here is my first sofa, I did roughly make a chair some time back but I wanted to test this shape of sofa because I intend to print my own fabrics and make some more but as always there is a process of trial and error to go through before you end up with something that makes you really happy.

I hope you like them; I intend to make up a few prams and pushchairs in matching fabrics.  I have got several modern prams on the table but as I'm making modern pram kits these are taking a long time to perfect because I have to keep testing to be sure all the parts fit together easily.  You might remember I made the carriage pram kits a while back, these have sold really well but because of the nature of the pram they are not for the faint hearted but more for the experienced crafter.

My modern pushchairs and prams on the other hand will be much simpler to construct and anyone should be able to make them up.  I've got most of the parts working but making up the instructions that accompany them is what takes the time. 

After the prams I want to make some bedroom furniture then some working lights and slowly go down the list of mini makes I've been waiting to create for ages.  Hope you like this month's mini makes, they are available in my shop now and with a bit of luck I'll soon have some matching pushchairs or prams to go with them.

Carriage Pram and New Pram Kits

Hello mini friends...

I hope this post finds you all well.  Last time I posted I told you I would be showing you the new improvements I have made on my prams...

Well I had an order from a lovely lady (I do have some wonderful customers) and we chatted about a few old things as you do, and I ended up making a carriage pram rather like the Oberon in a previous post but this time for an adult dh doll to push.  To add to this she asked me could I make her a little crib like the one she had as a baby, a little bit of research later and a crib with a little stand on wheels was recreated in mini and lastly I made a tiny canopy for the carriage pram.  Well I had lots of fun doing all this I can tell you but it also gave me a chance to use some of the new materials I had been researching and educating myself on.

I think one of the main things I am pleased with is the wheels... notice the wheels have double spokes which are just wonderful.  Prior to this I had made my own wheels and also found a few to purchase but the old way I made wheels was very time consuming and difficult but now, I finally have new wheels with double spokes that I love.

As always the pram has a moving hood and wheels and is fully lined and has a matching apron.  I changed quite a few things on this mini make and I even found some very tiny screws to attach the various parts with, they were fiddly but they work.  I really love how it all turned out and I hope you love it too.

Now the good news is, I have finally, finalised my pram kits and managed to get several made up and on sale so that you can now make your own carriage prams.   I asked a very lovely friend of mine to test-run one of my kits prior to release.  This lovely lady has never made a pram before but she is a seasoned crafter of mini things and has some beautiful works so I thought she would be the perfect person to test out the kit and give me some honest feedback.

I will tell you now that my friend agreed with me that my carriage pram kit is not for the faint hearted, as I said to her, part of the reason I wanted to bring out kits was because making these prams takes so long and so I wanted to give more people the chance to own one of these beautiful prams knowing that I myself do not have enough hours in the day to take on all the orders I get.  So this way I can give more people the opportunity to have their own treasured miniature carriage pram and they can also feel proud that they made it. I have given this kit a difficulty level of being for the seasoned crafter because it is quite detailed and takes a degree of time and accuracy.  I expect I could bring out another kit with a non-moving hood and without a padded and lined inner and that could be a little easier to make and I will work on some simplified kits in the future but first I intend to bring out lots of other mini pram and pushchair kits.

I did change a few things in the kit from what I originally created because to be very honest the instructions are already pages long and given the long list of materials I use, well lets just say it was turning into the 'War & Peace' equivalent.  I suspect I will continue to improve on this kit but this will mean the kit is limited and therefore I am going to send out numbered certificates of authenticity with the kits.

So I have more kits in the making, modern kits, kits for prams and other minis too.  The modern kits are so much simpler in comparison to the carriage pram, but I intend to make some even easier kits so that people who have never even attempted to put together a piece of Ikea furniture can just throw a basic pram kit together blindfolded... well maybe not blindfolded but certainly with ease.  

Now because I am making kits I believe it will leave me a little time to make the minis I want to make, you know, allow artistic juices to flow and all that.  So I intend to have some fun next year making whatever takes my fancy and I already have some ideas on what next year will bring.
